NETZSCH Grinding & Dispersing, a global leader in materials processing, and ProteinDistillery, a pioneer in functional protein production, have officially entered a long-term partnership. Together, this collaboration aims to create sustainable and efficient protein sources for the food industry. By combining their expertise, they hope to drive innovation and meet the growing demand for cleaner, more sustainable food options.

ProteinDistillery’s approach stands out from traditional plant-based protein extraction methods. Their microorganism-derived protein, Prew, offers a neutral taste and improved texture, reducing the need for artificial additives. This enhances both product development and consumer acceptance through clean-label labeling. Since their successful trials in 2021 and 2022, the partnership has grown. ProteinDistillery was founded in December 2021, and NETZSCH machines were acquired in mid-2023, reinforcing their commitment to innovation and a new way of protein production.

The partnership focuses on optimizing protein shifting and scaling processes. With NETZSCH technology, they’ve achieved significant improvements, leading to the construction of a pilot plant with large NETZSCH machines. This plant will enable mass production with reliable, high-quality results.

Both companies bring valuable expertise. NETZSCH excels in customizing protein-shifting processes, while ProteinDistillery specializes in extracting and purifying proteins from microorganisms. Together, they aim to produce neutral-tasting, high-digestibility proteins from microbial biomass.

The pilot plant is expected to be completed in 2024, and in addition, a large-scale facility is also planned. As a result, this partnership is set to redefine food technology, driven by both innovation and sustainable resource use. Furthermore, NETZSCH benefits from its process control expertise, while ProteinDistillery simultaneously gains from NETZSCH’s technical support and extensive network.
